A Merchant in Rugs

CDV-format albumen print of a Cairo rug seller by Hippolyte Deliť, circa 1865. Imprinted front "H. Deliť & Cie. Phot." and on reverse "Photographie Universelle / H. Deliť & Cie. Caire (Egypte) / succursale de la maison Pierson / Photographe de L'Emperor / Boulevart des Capucines, 3, Paris."   (Ref# ib930.05)

Middle-eastern rug merchants are proverbial for their wily ways. This foreboding, almost creepy-looking rug seller does not look like any exception to the rule.
