Wonderful quarter plate English daguerreotype showing a pensive, bookish woman in front of a dark, poetic, stormy backdrop. Housed in full morocco-leather case.
Wearing a fancy silk dress, this young lady's eyes gaze off idly as she seems intent on some distant thought. The arm which supports her pensively lowered head rests a heavy bound book, and behind her an extremely "dark and stormy night" is depicted on the backdrop. This type of dark sky backdrop is not common on English images, which more typically have a lighter background embellished with light blue sky and white clouds.
Plate is brilliant and quite crisp.
