Stereo daguerreotype of French soldier, by Désiré François Millet, ca. 1860. With intact period seals and reverse-painted glass mount with Millet studio stencil in gilt on front and Millet studio label on reverse. Notation on reverse identifies the sitter as "Edmond Laferrière". Applied color in flesh, red, blue, green, gilt, and silver.   ( Inventory# ia556 )

Laferrière's uniform has been identified as indicating a French captain of the artillery. He wears proudly both the Legion of Honor (hand-colored in red, green, and gilt) and the British government's Crimean War Medal, also given to their French allies. The tricolor on his hat is red, white, and blue.
