French quarter plate daguerreotype of child wearing earrings and holding a harlequin doll, 1840s, resealed with original paper mat and backing board. Inscribed on the reverse in period pen "Margueret Bessiere". With light applied color in flesh-tone and red.   ( Inventory# ib85 )

A heartfelt image of a girl and her toy. There appears to be a string or wire loop from which the doll was suspended (visible above its head) perhaps as a puppet or other form of animation. Margueret hands hold it with gentle affection.
