The Old Woman

Sixth plate daguerreotype of and old woman in glasses, with an interesting side-lighting effect. Housed in a half case.
This patient older woman looks thoughtfully but with lively eyes over her spectacles into the camera. An usually-positioned light at right casts the left side of her face into shadow. Together with the unusual composition -- there appears to be a cushion behind her head -- the odd lighting may indicate that the sitter was ill or an invalid, and the image taken as best it could be, in her home.
Plate in excellent condition. One "flying saucer" tarnish dot at left edge. Found together with the preceding Lot 16 and perhaps that gent's wife.
