Quarter plate daguerreotype of a young boy on a fancy rocking horse, anonymous American, 1840s. Housed in a full period leather case with silk pad.   ( Inventory# ic402 )

This is a happy child on a very fancy horse. The dark portions of the image do not show much depth or detail, but the better-illuminated areas of the boy and the head of his steed are detailed and well-defined. The horse's open mouth has been tinted with light pink color.

Condition: Image in excellent condition. Case overall very good, spine intact, slight curve to front cover, missing hook.
