Dapper Dude and Dog
SOLD October 2009 |
Superb sixth plate Neff's patent melainotype (unvarnished tintype) showing a dapper white-clothed man and his happy, light-haired canine. Reddish-pink color has been applied to the gent's cheeks as well as mouth of the dog. Housed in a full period pressed-paper case with repaired spine.
When replacing the glass it was noted that this plate bears Neff's melainotype patent imprint: "MELAINOTYPE PLATE / FOR NEFFS PAT 19 FEB [56]" at bottom under the mat.
Extremely crisp, this is one of the best Neff's Patent tintypes I have seen. Despite its fragile, matte-finish surface, the image shows some aging specks but no noticeable physical damage. Light red coloring applied to the Fido's mouth is an unusual touch.
