A fantastic view which appears to show actual smoke and erupting airborne lava spewing from Vesuvius's mouth, while an intrepid climber at far left provides a sense of scale.

Tones of image are strong and dark, with some light surface wear and two small stains in the smoke clouds at top, left of center.
