Early image of a California lumbering crew, mining that seemingly inexhaustible resource of the California Redwood tree. Vintage albumen print circa 1875 by Downing, Rea and Rauscher, Santa Rosa. Mounted on board with decorative printed border and studio identification for "Downing, Rea & Rauscher, Photographers, Third Street, Santa Rosa, Cal." Print size 5.75 x 7.75 inches (15x20 cm).
Carl Mautz's "Biographies of Western Photographers" lists Downing, Rea and Rauscher as operating on Third Street in Santa Rosa from 1875-78.
