CDV-format albumen print giving an iconic view of "Old Abe", the Wisconsin War Eagle for the Centennial Exposition, Philadelphia, 1876. With informative reverse imprint including copyright notice for the photographer W. W. Barrett.   ( Inventory# id577 )

As a fledgling, the mascot bald eagle "Old Abe" accompanied the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment through several major battles of the American Civil War, allegedly shrieking defiance at enemy forces. "Old Abe" survived the Civil War and remained an attraction until its death in 1881.
