Stunning sixth plate daguerreotype of a woman holding child in dramatic side-lighting, by Nichols, circa 1855. Housed in a full Jenny Lind case, albeit one in poor condition. Brass mat stamped "NICHOLS" lower right.   ( Inventory# id588f4 )

I do no know which of the many daguerreotypists called Nichols produced this image, but it's a very skillful one.
