Sepia-tone cabinet-card format photograph of the steamboat OTETIANI, noted for its supposed encounter with the dreaded Sea Serpent of Seneca Lake. By F. M. Foster, Pulteney, New York, circa 1900.   ( Inventory# id801 )

Several period newspapers report detailed claims that the Otetiani rammed and killed a large sea serpent in Seneca Lake on July 14, 1899. Other, skeptical period sources suggest that those on board had been drinking before the encounter.
