Grand Bridge at Havrincourt

Very large and impressive gelatin silver print depicting the construction of a bridge on the French Canal du Nord, circa 1910 by E. Soyez. Mounted on board approx. 21 x 26 inches (53x65 cm). With letterpress details on mount: "Canal de Nord / Grand Pont D'Havrincourt / 28 Mai 1910 / Overture de la Voute 40 mètres ... Photographie E. Soyez, 14, Grand Place, Cambrai." Matte-finish gelatin-silver print in overall very good condition, some faint silvering-out, light speckling in highlight areas. Mount has light soiling, some folds / tears at edges.

Also listed on the mount are the names of parties involved in the construction project:
"Ingénieur en Chef: M. Barget.
Ingénieur ordinaire: M. Deval.
Conducteur: M. Lebert.
Entrepreneurs: MM. Graveron et Allary Frères."

In 1914, the construction of the Canal du Nord was halted before completion due to the onset of World War I. Work did not resume on the canal until 1959.
