Small Girl in Chair
French sixth plate daguerreotype, 1850s. In period passe-partout mount, overall dimensions of mount 5 x 4.25 inches (12x11 cm). Price: $1,100. ( Inventory# ha99 )
A gemlike plate with extremely fine detail, in a size not very common in French images. There is an experimental feeling to this strange yet careful image, as Miss Muffet sits proudly on her perch, geometrically positioned at the exact center of the opening and yet surrounded by a scattering of unused studio furniture. The studio's rich carpet has been pulled forward of her chair, revealing a large area of wooden flooring, a footstool lingers to the left behind her, and a bit of white cloth has been dropped on the carpet to the left of her in front.
This plate's hallmark, "R.H." followed by an anchor and "30", does not appear to be listed in the standard sources.
