Babes in Toyland
Since this albumen print was produced by the printing-out process which requires a negative the same size as print, details of the dolls and rocking horse are very clear and tonality of print is fantastic, rich and apparently unfaded.
Overall condition of print is excellent, a 1-inch tear in print at left edge appears to have been glued down and retouched when print was originally mounted in the 19th century, and there are two tears bottom center (1-inch and 3-inch) which have been glued back in place. There is a small brown speck near nose of rightmost child. The deep walnut and gilt frame with square-cut nails has normal age wear and appears to be in original condition with no restorations. The old wood backing behind image (which had stained mounting board but fortunately not yet burnt the print) has been replaced with archival matboard.
