French quarter plate daguerreotype, mid to early 1840s, showing a French soldier holding his sword, with hat on table beside him. Resealed with original octagonal paper mat.   ( Inventory# dd06 )

An early image. The sitter's hat appears to bear the number "12" in reverse and I have been advised on the basis of his gear that the sitter may be an artillery man, perhaps 12th regiment monte.

The roughly plastered wall behind him shows a few gritty details. An area on his shoulder to the left appears whitish at certain angles. Condition is excellent. Some uneven areas in plate are original to its production.
