Primitive French Plates

Two quarter plate daguerreotypes of a man and woman, anonymous French ca. 1843. In original rough-cut paper mats and period wooden frames, 7.5 x 6 inches (19x15 cm).   ( Inventory# dd19 )

These plates were taken outdoors in front of a backdrop crudely hung from a brick or stone wall, which is visible along the top edge. Excellent condition with some scattered tarnish spots. Very crisp in spots, plate color ranges from orange-red to a bluish tonality.
