French quarter plate daguerreotype of mother and daughter, 1850s, with applied hand-coloring in red and bright green. Resealed in original faux tortoiseshell passe-partout mount. Overall dimensions of mount 6 x 5 inches (15x12 cm).   ( Inventory# ha22 )

Although the preparation of this image appears to have been a little rustic, with mother and daughter squinting against what must have been direct sunlight, a lovely green color was applied to their dresses, along with a touch of gilt and flesh tones, and use of the native plate color to give a brown cast to their hair.
