Constant Famin was a French master of pastoral imagery and this print certainly melds with his oeuvre. A focal point of 19th century French photography as well as painting, the country life and its image of a pastoral, slow-motion existence in time with the rhythms of nature bore a strong appeal for the over-stressed city-dweller.
