Large-format albumen print ca. 1870 by Jean Laurent. Titled in the negative "Corridas de Toros - 1786 - Salida de la cuadrilla. J. Laurent y Cia. Madrid..." On period album page. Print size 13 x 9.75 inches (33x25 cm).
Laurent seems to have overcome the motion-blurs present throughout the crowd in this image by taking separate photographs of each bullfighter's head, reducing and pasting them into the image, and then producing the current print as a copy photo from it. This is a rich view, all the more interesting for the deep shadow and agitation of its subjects.
