French half plate daguerreotype of two women and a girl by Paul Maujean, Paris. In original passe-partout mount with restored front glass and photographer's label on reverse.
A nice image. Blue coloring (now somewhat faded) has been applied to the women's neck-ribbons and gilt to their jewelry. Either applied coloring or native plate color also gives a flesh-tone to faces and hands. A spot of tarnish surrounds the girl's bracelet. The little girl is rendered in soft focus.
On reverse the label states (in French): "DAGUERREIAN PORTRAITS / Black [and white] & Colored on Plate & on Paper / Executed by Paul MAUJEAN, Professor of Photography / Rue Rambuteau, 50, Paris."
