Early quarter plate French daguerreotype of a mother and child. Housed in original gilt-plaster mount and veneered wood frame, overall dimensions 8 x 6.75 inches (20x17 cm). An old backing paper on reverse of the frame bears a faded inscription of which only the sitters' ages can be easily read (30 and 6 years of age).   ( Inventory# ib340 )

This early plate has a relatively shallow range of contrast, although sharp in detail. Some imperfections in the plate as well as cover glass. Scratching to front of frame.
