Sixth plate daguerreotype of a gent in large floppy hat, illuminated by light from a curtained window to right. With applied hand-color in red. Housed in a rough leather case with barely intact hinge, 1840s.   ( Inventory# ib389 )

A rich and brilliant plate, flesh tones are well-rendered and the red coloring is bright. A few thin mat abrasions in upper left corner and at top left edge. Very light tarnish at edges.
