Intriguing sixth plate daguerreotype of a man holding a very long coiled whip, anonymous American ca. 1855. Housed as found in a full period case, the numeral "21" and perhaps something further written into the front pad in black ink.   ( Inventory# ib492 )

Plate has areas of spotting scattered over the surface as shown, focus on the coiled whip is soft. Nevertheless, it remains a fearsome implement. I hope he was not a slave-catcher.

The velvet surround in case around the image has been partially removed at left and bottom.
