Quarter plate daguerreotype of rustic looking older man with a grin or smirk. Housed in a 1840s-style leather case with split spine and manufacturer's label in back of case reading "Myron Shew / Dealer in Daguerreotype Materials / No. 116 Chestnut Street / Philadelphia."   ( Inventory# ib867 )

Although it is housed in a early case, this image appears to already be a copy of an earlier image, probably a husband-and-wife pose of which the wife's shoulder is visible at left, along with the edge of the original plate/image at right. Focus is somewhat soft, as would be expected in a copy image.

Clearly, whoever had the original image copied agreed that the sitter's expression was worth preserving.
