Be Rtie Sk Unh
SOLD April 2009 |
Great CDV-sized tintype circa 1870 showing a boy with alphabet blocks and a variety of other 19th-century toys including what look like building blocks and wooden toy animals. The alphabet blocks have been built into a precarious pyramid which appears to read "BE RTIE SK UNH." (Corrected from entry in print catalog)
A collector has been suggested that the first two lines of the blocks might be intended to spell out the sitter's name, "Bertie."
Overall image is crisp and in good condition. There are two horizontal bends across plate and a rub to right of sitter's head.
