Winter on the Farm

Tintype circa 1870 showing a rustic American winter farm scene. Housed in period gilt mat with oval 4.5 x 6 inch viewable area and period gilt and paint frame. Dimensions of frame 10.5 x 12.5 inches (27x32 cm).
A young man, either the photographer or an assistant, is posed in the mid ground of image. He is holding what appears to be a whole plate focusing screen of ground glass as he gazes up towards the farmhouse.
The tintype is detailed and in excellent condition. There is a shallow bend bottom center and a small emulsion chip. The frame is in very good condition with normal aging and wear. Including areas covered by mat the tintype plate is roughly whole plate in size, 6-1/8 x 8 inches (15x20 cm). Areas covered by mat do not contain additional detail.
