Sixth plate daguerreotype of a young man in military cadet-style coat, anonymous American circa 1859. Housed in a black thermoplastic case, with several slips of identification behind image that seem to disagree with each other, labeling the sitter either "...Ward", or "John A. Head", or "William Furwald Head / Hooksett NH".   ( Inventory# ic594 )

The Littlefield, Parsons casemakers label in back of case has been torn, and a loose fragment is inscribed on one side "...Ward July, 1859" but on the other "William Furwald Head / Hookset NH / 17 years old." To add to the confusion image was also found with a small label inscribed John A. Head."

The plate itself is in superb condition and with crisp detail. The buttons on his military-style jacket appear to have a somewhat rough surface, but I cannot make out any design on them.

Case is overall attractive and in very good condition, with one crack formed from hinge brad in front upper left corner -- with the proper glue it could probably be closed.
