Early Woman Praying

Sixth plate daguerreotype of woman with her hands folded in prayer before an open book. Anonymous American, mid- to early-1840s. Housed behind double brass mat in a period ogee-style veneer wood frame. Overall dimensions of frame about 10 x 9.5 inches (25x24 cm).
Frame is very likely original to image and is in excellent attractive condition with minor chips and rubs.
Image is crisp and detailed with excellent contrast. Mat abrasions at edges and an indentation at mat edge on left side near bottom. A few dark spots in backdrop to right of woman's face show iridescent color at some odd angles of view. A very light electro-cleaning removed some tarnish from center of image.
