Gelatin-silver print ca. 1944, Aerial reconnaissance photo taken during US bombing in the Philippine islands. Titled in the negative front "...Ormoc Town - Leyte Is. P.I." and inscribed on the reverse "Ormac Town / Leyte Is. / Phillipine [sic] GRP. / Japs had just landed reinforcements here this morning Nov. 6 1944 / 1,000 lb. Bombs Blowing up Buildings". General Douglas MacArthur's reinvasion of the Philippine Islands had began a few weeks before, on September 20, 1944, and this photograph depicts a bombing run that was in the thick of MacArthur's battle to drive back the Japanese forces occupying the islands. Successful landings of US troops at Ormac were to follow on December 7th.

Image is crisp and excellent condition. Corners slightly rounded.
