The Life of a Salesman

Unusual larger-format albumen print showing a 19th century "drummer" or traveling salesman, in this case a seller of tobacco products, with an open account book and pencil, posed to commemorate 30 years of salesmanship. Beside him are two valises bearing signs reading "186[9]" and "1889", the second valise open and displaying a variety of tobacco product samples. Mounted on board slightly over 9.5 x 7.5 inches (24x19 cm). Print size 8.75 x 6.5 inches (22x17 cm).   Price: $180.   ( Inventory# ie102 )

I have been told that the long dark rectangular object in open valise is probably to be a brick of tobacco, used for rolling cigars, and that the small open boxes are likely cork tips for rolling cigarettes. One of the pouches in front of open valise appears to bear a label for the popular "Owl" brand tobacco.
