Half plate Cuttings-patent style ambrotype by the firm of Charles R. Clark and H. Holmes, Troy NY. In half-case and brass mat stamped "Clark & Holmes / Troy - N.Y." and "Pat. July 4 & 11, 1854".
A beautiful, crisp image of two appealing couples, with light red coloring to cheeks and lips. The quality of this image makes one understand how ambrotypes could be promoted as an improvement, daguerreotypes without the annoying glare.
