Stalwart Man in Case

Quarter plate daguerreotype of a stalwart, goateed man in Lord's Prayer / Portal thermoplastic case. With applied tinting in red.
This assertive-looking, broad-chested gent would have made an excellent draftee for someone's 19th-century football team. Focus of image appears set slightly back, perhaps for aesthetic reasons, so that tip of sitter's nose and front of body are in softer focus.
The front of thermoplastic case bears the Lyre in Wide Portal design (Berg 1-45) with R. Payne signature at base of lyre, and Lord's Prayer design (Berg 1-33) on reverse. The case is in excellent condition with only scattered light wear, and two small cracks by upper hinge where it inserts into back half of case and is slightly loose. These cracks do not extend to exterior of case and no other damage is noted.
