Lot 13.  Girl with Doll à l'Americaine

Sixth plate French daguerreotype of a little girl holding a tiny doll, with strongly applied hand-coloring, by Razimbaud. With photographer's label on reverse trumpeting Razimbaud's hand-coloring as well as his "moderate" prices and use of the "American Process".

I have seen bragging references to the use of an "American process" on other French daguerreotypes, but unfortunately have no idea what this refers to, other than indicating that American daguerreian efforts had attained some recognition in France.

The posing of this image does produce a rather rustic effect reminiscent of many American plates.

Dimensions of mount 5.1 x 4.3 inches (13x11 cm).
