Female Friends by McClees & Germon
SOLD December 2001 |
Sixth plate daguerreotype by McClees & Germon, Philadelphia, 1840s, with applied tinting. In original full leather case with carefully repaired spine.
Having just bustled into the daguerretypist's rooms, these pretty ladies are positioned in an interlocking posture which places their bonneted heads much closer together than any other body part, facilitating the exchange of gossip. Indeed, it seems as if they are about to exchange private words concerning the daguerreotypist, as soon as he is out of hearing. A crisp and radiant image by the Philadelphia masters McClees and Germon, this plate bears a touch of fresh color on the sitters' cheeks and lips.
