Early Plate by Sabatier-Blot
SOLD March 2004 |
Quarter plate daguerreotype of a woman, by Sabatier-Blot, Paris, ca. 1844. Housed in original paper mat with manuscript studio inscription in ink lower right.
Sabatier-Blot was a pioneering daguerreotypist whose friendship with period movers and shakers is reflected in two surviving daguerreotypes of Daguerre himself. Sabatier-Blot's 1844 portrait of Daguerre in the GEH shows a composition almost identical to this piece. (See Buerger, "French Daguerreotypes" 1989.) The studio location given on mat of this image is one known for Sabatier-Blot from 1844 to 1848.
