Mexican Family 2
SOLD May 2002 |
Sixth plate daguerreotype ca. 1850 showing an apparently mixed-race woman, from a group of cased images deriving from a Mexico City family. Hand-tinted in gilt and red and housed in full case.
Mexican cased image from the same group as previous, this woman appears to be of mixed race and might well be a family servant. Even if so, her shawl and gilt-tinted jewelry still indicate a reasonably comfortable standard of living.
Some rubbing at edges of plate. A thin black line across her arm at right appears to be a plate flaw.
