Vintage albumen print of an Austrian subject ca. 1880 by Würthle & Spinnhirn. Reverse of print bears backstamp for "Würthle & Spinnhirn / Photographische Anstalt / Salzburg". Archivally remounted on period album page with hand title "Traunfall Austria". Print size 7 x 10.5 inches (18x26 cm).
A small fleck missing from the emulsion lower left.
In the period tourist guide "A Day in Salzburg" I find reference to the "renowned photographic establishment" of Würthle & Spinnhirn. ("Ein Tag in Salzburg - Kurzer Wegweizer" published by Heinrich Dieter, Salzburg 1883.) Their work seems to focus on the mountainous environs of Salzburg as much as the city itself. Parts of this scenic region were more recently used as setting for the film "The Sound of Music".
