Sixth plate daguerreotype, anonymous American ca. 1850s, of an sweet woman with frowzy, unkempt hair and long locks. Blush tinting to her lips and cheeks, housed in a full pressed-paper case with leather-repaired spine.
One has the impression this woman had enough of trying to coerce her hair for the photographer's benefit and decided to "let it all hang out".
