Guitar Lady by Wright
SOLD March 2005 |
Sixth plate daguerreotype of a woman playing her guitar, with mat stamp for "M. WRIGHT / ARTIST". In full case with leather-repaired spine. Light applied tinting in pink and gilt.
This woman holds her guitar as if she really means business. Fingers on the bridge are in position and ready to roll. Focus is sharp on her right hand and softer forward, bright areas slightly overexposed.
I assume the artist is the M[ichael J.] Wright listed by Craig's Daguerreian Registry as operating at 381 Bowery Street, New York City in the late 1850s
