Women with Caps and Cased Image

Sixth plate ambrotype of two female friends wearing caps and holding a cased image. Housed in a half case.
An interesting odd image, the cap of woman on left in particular has a very military cut to it, while her dress looks like something from the 1840s. The image she holds shows two persons leaning very close to one another - perhaps themselves at a younger age?
