Triple Exposure of Dog
SOLD September 2006 |
Cabinet card format printing-out print, triple-exposure view of a dog by Desgranges, Nice, ca. 1890. With imprint on front "Desgranges / La Meme Personne - Nouveaute de la Maison / Nice, Aix-Les-Bains [France]" and fancy imprint on reverse including reproduction of an 1889 gold medal.
As seen from his imprint under the image -- "The Same Person - Novelty of the Firm" -- Desgranges cards are usually multiple exposures of people rather than pets. His use of the black background and positioning of the dog for each exposure are adroit, with only slight overlap visible in a few places. Some surface wear and an area of stain/fading in the background left, light foxing of card.
