Albumen print of a dead quail, anonymous European ca. 1870. Annotated in a corner of the print in pencil "Ram[?] Quail" and set into a portion of period album page at the corners. Print size 4.75 x 3 inches (12x8 cm).   ( Inventory# ib419 )

We can almost hear the notes of Mozart's Requiem in our ears as we gaze upon this image of a quail whose violent demise has left him hanging upside-down from a nail. For the hunter however he represents "a good shot" and food for the pot and as they say, "the cycle of nature continues".

A beautiful and very rich print with some imperfections in the emulsion. The oval image area measures approx. 3.5 x 2.25 inches (9x6 cm).
