Sixth plate daguerreotype of dark-eyed lady holding a sheet of paper, anonymous American, mid-to-early 1840s. housed in a worn full case, slightly sprung and with separated spine. With applied hand-coloring in flesh with red touches, and blue or green to tablecloth beside her.   ( Inventory# ib62 )

The sitter holds a sheet with folds visible, perhaps a letter from the distant loved one? Any writing on the sheet is not visible. In excellent condition and with attractive coloring, this plate bears the early "L. B. Binsse & Co. N.Y. / 40" hallmark.
