French quarter plate daguerreotype of two elegant women women, 1840s. Resealed in original reverse-painted plaster mount and backing board.   ( Inventory# ib87 )

An absolutely stunning plate showing two beautiful and elegant women, rendered with statuesque clarity against a white background. Both skin tones and background give a variety of red and orange tones a different angles of view. Gilt color has been applied to their jewelry and other objects.

The backing board does not bear a photographer identification but does show a bit of French-language advertising used as scrap material.
