Seaside Sirens of Doyle
SOLD April 2009 |
CDV-sized tintype of four woman in swim wear and posed in mock boat against a seaside backdrop with waves and a lighthouse, one of the women's belts inscribed DOYLE (laterally reversed in image).
The front-most siren displays a well-turned ankle and very long tresses as she steps forward in the waves, not unlike the famous Venus of Botticelli. I assume the "DOYLE" on sitter's belt is the name of the beach the ladies are visiting, although it might possibly indicate the name of a photographer.
Overall glossy and in excellent condition, light surface dirt at edges.
