Young Sisters Arm-in-Arm
SOLD October 2009 |
Sixth plate daguerreotype of two sisters seated arm-in-arm and wearing dresses cut from identical cloth. Anonymous American, 1840s. Housed in excellent condition full leather case, partially separated spine, impressed with a maiden-tossing-flowers design perhaps derived from Botticelli's Springor a similar source (Berg 4-46).
Very faint pink tinting has been applied to the two sitter's cheeks.
