The Walking Fairgrounds Advert
SOLD March 2008 |
Cabinet-card format printing-out print of a gent in costume advertising the Worchester East Fair at Clinton, Massachusetts for 1893. With studio imprint front "The Jenness Studio / Tyler's Block / Clinton, Mass."
Every inch of this gentleman's clothing is put to good advertising use - his hat reads "Bigger Then [sic] Ever / Clinton Fair" and his coat's signage runs "[Fair] at Clinton, Thursday and Friday Sept. 14 and 15, 1893, Come." He is also holding pamphlets which read "Fair Bulletin / Worchester East Fair..." and go on to give further details.
-- "Please do take a flyer, and come visit the Fair. You'll have a great time!" --
The card bears an old ink inscription on the reverse which identifies the sitter and gives a little of his history. I reads: "George F. H. Rice. / Born in Northboro 1822? / Died in Clinton, Oct. 11, 1899. / Aged 77 years."
