Three Fine Ladies
SOLD October 2010 |
Larger than half plate ambrotype of three young ladies, perhaps siblings, by an anonymous photographer (probably in the UK) circa 1858. With applied hand-coloring in blush, brown, and gilt. Housed in a full leather case. Dimensions of case 5.25 x 7 inches (13.5 x 17.5 cm).
A fine image in considerably larger than half-plate format.
Two of the sitters have had brown coloring applied to their hair, cheeks and lips have been tinted with blush, and some gilt color to their rings. The women wear black jet jewelry and the rightmost holds a sixth plate daguerreotype case.
The full case is in very good condition, one missing hook, hinge professionally restored. The brass mat has been replaced with one of gilt paper.
