Sixth plate size salted paper print of a German university student, mounted under glass on mat in the style of a German daguerreotype, by Georg Heintz, Erlangen, Germany, circa 1855. Mat imprinted "Photogr. v. G. Heintz", with added pencil notations probably identifying the sitter. Overall dimensions 5.5 x 4 inches (14x10 cm).   ( Inventory# ic833a )

Erlangen was and still is an important university city. The uniform-like elements of this student's clothing probably indicate his membership in a German student society or "Burschenschaft."
